History of Manchester United

Manchester United The club was formed in 1878 under the name Newton Heath Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway Football Club (Newton Heath LYR F.C.) by railroad workers at Newton Heath. They played in a small square on North Road, near Manchester's Piccadilly railway station for fifteen years, before moving to Bank Street in a town near Clayton in 1893. The team had been a member of the Football League a year earlier and started severing ties with the railway station, to become an independent company, pick up a secretary and throw out the last name "LYR" to become Newton Heath FC only.

But in 1902, the team nearly went bankrupt, with debts of over £ 2500 and even their Bank Street field was closed. Just a few moments before the club was decided to be dissolved, the club suddenly get an injection of funds from J.H. Davies, director of a beer company Manchester Breweries. The story is the captain of the team, Harry Stafford, showing off his dog at a fundraiser for the club. St. Dogs Bernard is estimated by Davies and he wants to buy it. The offer was denied by Stafford and instead offered Davies to invest his money in his football club as well as chairman of Newton Heath FC.

The offer was accepted and survived Newton Heath from bankruptcy. After that a meeting was held to change the club's name to mark the beginning of the club's revival. The names 'Manchester Central' and 'Manchester Celtic' stuck out to be strong candidates for a new name before Louis Rocca, a young Italian immigrant boy, said "Gentlemen, why do not we use Manchester United's name?" Rocca's proposed name is approved and officially began to be used on April 26, 1902. Davies the new chairman, also decided to change the color of the team from green to red-white gold as the color of Manchester United.

They then promoted to Division One after finishing in two Division Two seasons of 1905-06. Their first season in Division One ended poorly, they were in 8th place. Eventually they won their first league title in 1908. Manchester City are under investigation for paying players above the regulation set by the FA. They were fined £ 250 and their eighteen punished players should not play for them anymore. United quickly took advantage of this situation, recruiting Billy Meredith and Sandy Turnbull, and others.

Busby Era (1945-1969)

In 1945, Matt Busby was appointed manager of the team based at Old Trafford. He asked for something unusual at that time in his duties as a coach such as the power to appoint teams, select players to be recruited and determine the training schedule of the players themselves.
